A section of chiefs from Gusii region have now pleaded with the government to consider arming them with firearms over rising insecurity.
They claims that at times, some of them are forced to handle armed criminals thus endagering their lives.
Led by Iyabe location chief Benson Mosumari on Tuesday, the provincial administrators said the move would also help them defend locals from the armed gangs.
"We are all aware that Kisii South have been on spot over rising insecurity cases and now we are calling for government intervention and above all provide us with firearms for self defenses well as operations," said Mosumari
Throughout the month of March and February, both Kisii and Nyamira Counties have registered more cases of insecurity, with Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Naikoru blaming locals.
"Security is a collective issue and locals must also play their part. Government alone cannot solve the issues."
Their plea comes at a time the Government have deployed more police officers in the area to avert the rising insecurity in the area.
