Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has directed all chiefs and their assistants to ensure that all children go to school.

He said it was sad that some parents were denying their children their right to education at the expense of home chores.

“I have received information from the public that there are some parents who are denying their children right to education, I am ordering chiefs and their assistants to arrest and charge such parents since they are denying their children right to education,” he said in Eldoret town, Sunday.

“Why should a child not attend school yet the government is offering free and compulsory primary and secondary education. We will deal with you ruthlessly since education is the only investment that a parent can leave to his heirs?” he added.

Hassan reiterated that it is the obligation of parents to ensure every child gets the best education to help brighten their future lives and to also deal with the poverty.

“Parents we must ensure that our children get the best education because education is the only key to success and the only equalizer between the rich and the poor,” he added.
