Chiefs and their assistants in Gatundu North County have been instructed to identify youth aged 18 years and above for them to be issued with Identification Cards.
Speaking to the chiefs and their assistants on Monday during a brief meeting held in Kamwangi CDF hall, the sub county commissioner Daniel Nyamiti said it was the responsibility of government to ensure all Kenyans get IDs.
‘You have up to one month to identify and bring on board people who qualify to acquire the identification documents, it is their right to be exposed to government services by having national identity cards,’ he told local administrators.
He further directed chiefs to assist registration of person’s officers to deliver processed cards to applicants, adding that over 5,700 IDs were gathering dust at different registration centers in the sub county.
He said he was working closely with the area Registrar of Persons in order to ensure the identification of documents reach their rightful owners.
On illicit brews, Nyamiti said at least 300 litres of Chang’aa was impounded this year in Makwa, and seven people affiliated with either consuming or selling the brew arrested.
The police boss further revealed that the government got 2 million from fines from illicit brews related cases and reminded chiefs that the responsibility of stamping out the menace still remained their mandate.
