Authorities in Uasin Gishu county's Turbo sub-county have been ordered to track down and file cases of students who have not reported to school.
Turbo Deputy County Commissioner Gideon Ombongi said in Eldoret town on Saturday that parents need to be responsible and report such cases for necessary action to be taken.
Ombongi said out of the students expected to join various schools in the sub-county at Form One level, only about 90 percent have reported to school.
"We have started tracking all those who have not reported to school. It is important to know what the problem is," he said after a meeting convened by the Education ministry.
On January 15, the Education ministry extended the reporting date for the Form Ones by a week after the school reported low turn-out in the first week of reporting.
The decision was informed by the overwhelming turnout of students in some regions and slow reporting in others.
The first group of students reported to their respective schools in the week between January 9 and 15 was a handful arrived at school raising concerns in the Education ministry.
"Parents are better placed to help us here," Ombongi said.
"They are the ones in the know on who is in school and who is still out of school."
By Thursday, a total of 790 Form One students had not yet reported to school.
