Chiefs and police officers from Kisumu now face sack for their failure to combat the sale of second generation liquor in the county.
Speaking at a public baraza on Thursday at Otonglo area, the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Interior and Coordination of National government Karanja Kibicho said he has reports of some of the chiefs from the area who have been been taking alcohol during working hours and are also involved in the sale of liquor.
He said a chief, four assistant chiefs and police officers will be dismissed for absconding their duties to implement the law.
“I am aware of the chiefs who have been colluding with brewers thereby failing to implement the law. Some of them have also been absconding from duties after consuming the liquor. My ministry will hunt down such officers including the brewers and distributors of the illicit liquor,” said Mr Kibicho.
He said stern actions will also be taken against police officers who accept bribes from brewers and release suspects from custody without charging them in courts thereby aborting abusing the justice system.
“The government will not watch its administration officers who abet the menace of the second generation liquor. We have lost about 50,000 Kenyans due to the second generation liquor. We cannot continue to loose the bread winners of families in that manner otherwise our children will remain in dilapidated states thereby crippling our economy,” he said.
Mr Kibicho who has been with the ministry for three months said he is in the tour of the counties to assess the situation and meet with security agencies drawn from the police service, Kenya wildlife services, county commissioners and chiefs.
