Kisii South police boss David Mburukwe accused local chiefs of defending rapists and men who have been raping minors.

He said that the number of girls who were getting pregnant and dropping out of school in the region was on the rise for the past five months.

"School going girls have been impregnated by people well known by chiefs but no action has been taken against the offenders. Lazy chiefs have been receiving bribes from the offenders’ families to defend them,” he said.

He said parents should stop reporting such cases to chiefs because their integrity is questionable.

“Parents should be reporting whoever impregnate their daughters to police directly and arrests to be made immediately because chiefs have failed in their roles. We want all girls to be respected and be allowed to complete school before engaging in sex. Anyone found having a relationship with school girls belong to jail,” he said.

He challenged teachers to invite health workers to various schools to test if girls were pregnant.
