Turbo sub-county Deputy Commissioner Kinyua Wanjau has appealed to local Chiefs to intensify the fight against illicit brewing.
Speaking to journalists after holding a meeting with Chiefs and village elders at his office over the weekend, Wanjau directed the local administrators to support the government on the fight against illicit brewing.
He said that the government is determined to deal with illicit brewers in the sub county, adding that it remains a big challenge towards realization of development.
“We appeal to Chiefs and village elders to work with the government in order to stem out illicit brewers,” he said.
Wanjau noted that security officers will be conducting swoops and raids in areas they perceive to be homes for illicit brewing.
On Thursday last week, police raided a brewing den at Forestal shopping center and destroyed 10,000 liters of chang’aa.
On the same note, Wanaju urged youths to desist from alcohol abuse, saying it will ruin their lives.
The officer further noted that Turbo Sub County has the highest cases of drug abuse among youths, and urged the National Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) to intervene.
Wanjau said that a crackdown will also be launched soon to crack the whip on bar operators who are said to be selling alcohol drinks to minors.
