Chiefs from Kinanie and Magatani divisions have been urged to intensify sensitization on Nyumba Kumi.
The call was made by the areas assistant county commissioner, Rukia Chetechi, at a Nyumba Kumi and community policing leadership bonding meeting at a hotel in Kyumvi town on Sunday.
“I still urge you leaders to sensitize the public in areas you come from to insist on knowing their neighbors well, by so doing criminals will find it difficult to hide among them,” she said.
Chetechi said the Nyumba Kumi initiative members had grouped themselves in clusters which include business community, landlords, tenants, local residents, boda boda and taxi operators who keep vigil in turns at night with the assistance of police officers to ensure safety of people and their property.
“The public have grouped themselves into clusters, there are those who keep vigil at night in shifts as others stay in their houses,” she said.
Chetechi said the groups were pro-active to detect criminals and inform government policing agencies that promptly conduct arrests before they commit crimes.
She said Nyumba Kumi allows for all residents as members of the community to be cautious and vigilant against crime by giving information to relevant authorities for action in case of any suspicion of criminals.
