All chiefs in Kisii County have been urged to spearhead tree growing by identifying possible areas for planting and rehabilitation.
According to Kisii County Environmental officer Ken Omoke, the area residents should consider planting trees especially during this rainy season.
While challenging Chiefs to join hands in the ‘Green Schools Programme’ meant to inculcate tree growing culture among school going children, he said that the county through the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) was committed to supporting all schools in the venture.
“We have the potential of becoming the most green and health county in the country and that can be achieved collectively, chiefs will helps us spearhead this because they are closer to the common man,” he added.
The officer was speaking early Friday in Kisii County hall where he launched a tree planting initiative that will be adopted by the county.
“I urge the private sector to consider tree growing as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a way of supporting the programme and encouraging communities to adopt this culture of tree growing,” he added.
