A four-year-old child has been left in the care of cleaners at the Kisumu County hospital, as doctors and nurses continue with a nationwide strike over pay rise.
Hope Awiti, who is suffering from malnutrition, was first abandoned by her parents in September this year at the facility's Maternal-Child Health Centre.
A cleaner at the hospital, Sella Kerubo, said she was concerned about the baby's health.
"This child was first abandoned by her parents and now by the nurses. The hospital is the only home she knows," she said.
This came a day after reports indicating that at least 100 mentally ill patients had escaped from a hospital in Nairobi.
Doctors and nurses began a countrywide strike after talks called by the Ministry of Health failed to bear fruits last weekend.
