Residents of Gatwekera Area in Kibera slums this morning were left in rude shock after fire broke out in one of the residential houses and burnt a child to death.

Residents said that the fire broke out as a result of poor electricity connections. 

The mother of the child who was in tears was not able to speak following the loss. 

"The fire started at 8 am this morning. We could not be able to save the child since flames of fire spread very quick and burnt the child as the mother had gone to the shop," said Mike Kimasu. 

Kimasu urged residents to ensure that electricity connections are done by qualified personnel to avoid unnecessary fires that have been on the rise in the slums.
