A family in Omoyo village is mourning the death of an 8-year-old old child who died instantly after touching a live wire that connects electricity to the main kitchen.
The Tuesday afternoon incident that left villagers in shock also saw a 10-year-old kid sustain burns. The child is now recovering at Kapkatet district hospital.
questions the competency of rural electrification employees who are said to have done the connections.
According to a witness, the two children were playing near the kitchen when the incident occurred.
“I heard suspicious noise from the compound and I had to rush there because my neighbour had informed me that she would not be there. I found the girl already dead while the boy who had rescued himself was lying down in pain,” said Gideon Nyamboki.
“I called an ambulance that eventually took the boy to the hospital while the body was taken by the police to Keroka district mortuary,” he added.
KPLC Sotik branch officials led by Jonathan Ngeny regretted the incident when they visited the site and urged the bereaved family to give the company time to investigate the incident before fixing the mess.
“It is sad that we can lose a life through such an incident. We have to conduct thorough investigations from now so that we ascertain what had happened in bid to combat similar incidents in future. However, there are suspicious connections here and we have to know who did the wiring,” he said.
