Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru has raised concern over the increased number of parents neglecting their children in the region.
Nakoru while speaking in Miruka on Wednesday said parents who neglect their children should stop giving birth instead.
“Cases of child negligence in Nyamira are on the rise and I don’t wish to see such cases increasing further.
"It is time parents should take up their parental responsibilities seriously to ensure the lives of the children in future are good," he said.
He claimed that most families where children have been neglected are the families making and selling chang’aa.
The county chief said local chiefs and police officers colluding with illicit brew dealers in the region should change their dubious ways of making money.
“Most parents who have neglected their children are drug and alcohol addicts. Chiefs in deep villages should help the government to end the sell and making of illicit liquor so that parents can stop neglecting their children,” he added.
He called on parents to take their children to school or they be arrested for denying the children a right to education.
