A 37 year-old man has been handed a 12 year jail term, by a Thika Court, after he was found guilty of defiling a minor.
Jonathan Kyalo, from Makongeni estate, appeared before Chief Magistrate Stephen Mbugi, and pleaded guilty against the defilement allegations levelled against him.
The court heard that the accused lured a 5 year-old girl into his rental house.
The girl who neighbours the accused, according to Prosecutor Nancy Muthuri, got enticed by sweets that were provided by Kyalo.
The small girl was warned not to reveal the information to anyone least she gets killed.
On coming home, Teresiah Muthoni, the minor’s mother, found her daughter unwell after she lamented of pain from her private parts.
She took her for medical examination at Thika Level Five Hospital where the doctor detected the heinous act.
Muthoni reported the matter to Makongeni Police Station where through the help of the child, Kyalo was arrested on April 12, 2015 and taken to the police station.
The accused requested the court to consider while giving its ruling that he was an orphan and that he was jobless.
Prosecution told the court how immense the crime has been in the area and thus requested the court to set a lesson for other defilers using the case.
The court handed him 12 years in jail with liberty to appeal against the ruling within fourteen days.
