The deputy governor of the Children National Assembly Priscilla Mwangi Mukami is set to leave for New York during the April holidays to advocate for children's rights in the Children Summit.
The youngster, who has just joined Thika School for the blind for her O level education, is set to leave after the governor was introduced in the governor’s meeting earlier this year in Beijing China.
The events planned by Plan International which is working in over 35 countries at the moment, is set to educate and improve on the knowledge of the children towards their rights which according to the NGO officials will make it easier for them to advocate for children rights.
The operations manager Lucy Muraguri said that the children are exposed to lots of challenge but due to lack of knowledge they are forced to remain silent and be abused by their seniors who include their parents and guardians.
She said that the children are forced to deny the charges imposed to those who abuse them by the family members and hence the cases don’t proceed even after they are arraigned in court as no evidence is presented.
Muraguri has called on the media personalities to create awareness in the different institutions to ensure the people are much aware of the dangers of subjecting their children into abuse and more so the challenges.
“Let’s work together to spread this message as the people are still living in the old era where children were being subjected to early marriages and by old men,” Muraguri urged.
