Speaking on Wednesday in Thika during the launch of ‘Simama Mtoto Campaign’, Action for Children in conflict Director John Muiruri said that the number of young children living in the streets has doubled to almost 500,000 and yet the government is doing nothing to contain the situation.

“We see young children in town and the government officials also see them and yet there is nothing being done to curb the situation. I have not heard any MP or Senator addressing the issue,” said Muiruri.

Muiruri added that the ‘Simama Mtoto Campaign’ hopes to raise awareness on all issues affecting children and their welfare. "We have very high hopes that this campaign will address all the issues that affect our children and also their welfare. We want this campaign to reach everyone and also to call all the leaders to be part of it," added Muiruri.

Gospel artiste Bahati performed during the launch and he encouraged all the youths to take part in the campaing.

"We do not have to wait for the leaders so as to kick start this campaign. Together you and me can do a good job,” said Bahati.
