The incident which happened in the morning hours took the efforts of the neighbours and members of public to put out the fire and rescue the children who almost got stuck in the house as the fire was spreading fast.

“I was alerted by the smoke which was coming out of the house and I called my neighbours who helped in the rescue. We rescued the two children who were frightened and could possibly be stuck in the house were it not for our efforts,” narrated Ann Wairimu, a neighbor.

Witnesses said that the fire broke out in the bedroom section and spread fast to other rooms which hampered their efforts to salvage property from the house.

“We tried our best to salvage the property in the house but the fire was too huge. We managed to rescue the children who are more important than anything else that was in there”, James Karuga, a witness said.

Property worth thousands of shillings was reduced to ashes as their rescue efforts were fruitless. The fire was however contained in time before it spread to other homesteads. The cause of the fire is still unknown but the police are conducting investigations to unravel cause of the fire.
