Cyber cafes in Athi River town have been flocked by children shortly after the schools’ closure for April holidays.
Children aged between six and 15 years were on Friday spotted in several cyber cafes in the town in their hundreds.
Cyber attendant from one of the joints Justine Wanyama said majority of the children were his loyal clients as they frequent the place mostly on the weekends.
“This is not strange, we in this industry were expecting our businesses to boom during the April holidays once the schools close. These children are our loyal customers because they frequent our cyber cafes across the town,” said Wanyama.
Wanyama said children like computer games more so playing games with actions.
He said each game costs Sh10 that is affordable to a number of parents who support their children to go play the computer games instead of being idle.
“I have realized that it is the parents who encourage their children to visit cyber cafes for the games, they give them as much as Sh100 to pay for the games,” said Wanyama.
Cecilia Njoki said cyber cafes help parents undertake their daily businesses without worries unlike when children stay at home alone.
Njoki said the games keep children busy thereby keeping them away from bad companies of children who roam around in slums.
She called on the parents to support their children play the games arguing that it exposes them to computers at tender ages thereby making them become digital.
