Thika West deputy county commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru has called on women to keep up in their children's upbringing, saying the number of street children has reduced in Thika town compared to last year’s numbers.

Gicheru said men have abandoned their families and left the full responsibility to women who are struggling in hardships to take good care of the children.

He added that the children need to be educated and not used to beg for money in the streets as it was happening last year before he fired a stern warning to the parents.

He said that the few remaining that are taking their children along the streets will be arrested and that those pretending to be blind so as to be supported financially will not be left out of the oncoming raid on the streets too.

Kiandutu area has been named to have produced most of the hooligans who pretend to be disabled and lie on the Thika streets begging.

The officer has now called on the area chief Daniel Waiguru to be vigilant on those acquiring help by false pretence so as to shun the behavior which he said has flooded the Thika West area.

He has, however, called urged men to support their women take care of their children to ensure the school dropout cases are tamed.

He was speaking during the farmers’ trade expo official flagging off in Thika town.
