Children gambling in Athi River town is just on another level, says area chief Joel Mukwa.
Mukwa said those operating gambling businesses in the region should not allow children below 18 years into their premises.
He condemned certain traders operating gambling businesses in the town claiming they breach law by admitting minors.
“There are these gambling machines supplied by Kenyans from China origin to traders in Athi River town, the games are increasingly gaining popularity in Athi River town and its environs,” said Mukwa.
Mukwa said the business should be well organized not to allow school going children.
He said the games might compromise security in the area if not controlled because several children might cheat their parents to be going to school but end up in the joints instead.
“Where do children get money to engage in gambling, if they are not given the cash by their parents, they will either go look for it through child labor or steal from same parents or neighbors,” said Mukwa.
Mukwa said there were some children engaged in scrap collection and selling in the town to raise money for gambling.
Addressing the press at his office in Athi River on Wednesday, Mukwa said only adults should gamble.
He said the adults should, however, obey working hours to avoid idling around in such betting premises.
