Children with disabilites from Limuru yesterday received wheelchairs from Partners for Care Kenya.
The organisation's official Kenya' Antony Mwaura said that the wheelchairs that they were given were worth Sh200,000.
“We are happy to bring a positive change in the lives of these children,” said Mwaura.
The children were seen moving the wheelchairs here and there, delighted by the new freedom brought by the form of transport.
A school official John Kimani said that parents would not need to always be near their disabled children since once they got used to the wheelchairs they would be able to move in and out the house when they chose, and even be pushed around the neighbourhood without much difficulty.
“The children are used to be carried on their parents back to visit the toilet, go to church or the hospital, but now they have the means to take themselves places, or have their siblings push them and also enjoy life more. We are happy with today's donation,” said Kimani.
Mwaura told the parents not to be ashamed of their disabled children by keeping them locked up in the house.
He added that there were many avenues through which the parents could get assistance from the government and other well-wishers in order to improve their standard of living through education, the provision of needed amenities and health treatments whenever possible.
