The Nakuru government has announced a partnership deal with a US based Autism centre in offering special training to teachers dealing with children with special needs.

This comes after a meeting between chief executive of Minnesota Autism Center Kathryn Marshall with Governor Kinuthia Mbugua in his office on Tuesday.

Marshall underscored the importance of the weeklong training that will be offered to teachers of Pangani Special School stating that it will delve on very important skills which young children with special needs need to be taught.

“Experts dealing with children with disabilities will be providing the training that is intended to help the caregivers techniques on how to develop skills in these children".

“The skills will take them to a different level where otherwise they could not have managed. If they get the skills while still young, that is when they can be able to become people who can even take care of themselves later in life,” said Marshall.

On his part, the governor lauded the team for their hard work in ensuring that children with special needs are well taken care of.

He also welcomed a proposal by Minnesota Autism Centre to upgrade Pangai Special School and transform it into a boarding school.

“The choice is very objective and once we create capacity, we will be able to also train others,” said the governor adding that the school will play an important role in nurturing talents within those with special needs.

Deputy governor Joseph Ruto, county secretary Joseph Motari and other county officials attended the meeting.
