A children's home in Thika town is set to benefit from a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) initiated house following the huge number of street children that are taken to the home.

Speaking from his office on Tuesday, Thika west CDF finance chairman Michael Ndonga said that many of the children taken to the home are orphans, others are neglected by their parents after divorce while others run from home due to domestic rows.

“Cases of street children in Thika town have been on the rise and this has pushed the children department to take many of these children to Otto Hoffman children’s home which is located just opposite Gatitu stage,” said Ndonga.

He added: “As Thika West CDF we have visited the home and with authority from our leader Alice Ng'ang'a, we have decided to build them a beautiful house to decongest the place. The house is estimated to cost Sh2 million.”

Thika West children's officer Rebecca Kariuki lauded the move citing that a lot of street children cases had been recorded in her office.

“These are normal children and they also need a conducive living environment. If my constituency has offered to build them a house, that is a plus for them,” she said.

The project according to Ndonga will commence in August 2015.
