The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has finally explained whey an exercise book was uploaded on its portal to represent form 34A in one of the polling stations.
Kenyans put the electoral body on spot after they discovered the exercise book was used to show what the presidential candidates obtained in one of the polling stations in Mandera county.
The book neither contained signatures from the presiding officer and deputy presiding officer nor signatures of political agents at the questioned polling station.
IEBC however later uploaded a real form 34A after a section of Kenyans online questioned its credibility.
Speaking on Sunday at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi, IEBC’s Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba stated that the presiding officer of that particular station had uploaded the exercise book with an aim of testing the system.
“After the tallying, the presiding officer wrote the results on the exercise book and went ahead to test the systems only to realize he couldn’t test. Once you lock in the results it cannot be reversed,” said Chiloba.
He added, “He has however presented the original forms and we uploaded the correct forms.”
