IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba has refuted claims that the electoral body did less to encourage more people to register as voters.

According to Chiloba, IEBC had rolled out a strategy where its officials went from door to door sensitising people to register as voters and help reduce voter apathy.

Chiloba further said the commission ran programmes through the electronic media to further call on people to enlist.

"IEBC did all it could to ensure people turned up for the mass voter registration exercise. We had our officers moving from door to door to sensitise people on the need to register. We similarly ran programmes on radio and television for the same purpose," said Chiloba.

Chiloba, however, said the work done by politicians had overshadowed that of the commission.

According to Chiloba, people were more concentrated on political events than the messages from IEBC.

However, Chiloba thanked all politicians who called on people to turn out and register as voters.

"What happened is that the works of politicians and their campaigns overshadowed what we were already doing on the ground. However, we thank all politicians who ensured they called on people to turn out for the registration exercise," added Chiloba.

The IEBC chief made the remarks during an interview on Radio Maisha on Tuesday.
