Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba has spoken about the August elections that has been described by opposition leaders as “shambolic”.
The presidential results announced by the IEBC were nullified by the Supreme Court on September 1.
The apex court ruled that the polls body did not conduct the election according to the constitution and Elections Act.
Speaking on NTV on Wednesday evening, Mr Chiloba defended the commission, saying the election was free and fair.
Chiloba said they put in a lot of efforts to ensure no rigging took place, contrary to what opposition leaders and supporters say.
The IEBC chief however admitted there were some “minor errors” during the elections, which he said were human in nature.
He denied claims that the IEBC system was hacked during results transmission.
“From the information I have, and the expert opinion, I can confidently say that the IEBC system was not hacked. And that there was no attempt to hack,” Chiloba said.
He said the IEBC secretariat, which he chairs, had responded to the 12 point memo sent to him by the commission’s chair, Wafula Chebukati.
National Super Alliance (Nasa) leaders have mounted pressure on the CEO to resign following the irregularities in the nuliffied election.
The Nasa leaders have maintained they will not participate in an election managed by Chiloba.
