IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba has responded to claims by National Super Alliance (Nasa) leaders that he signed a contract for the fresh presidential poll at night.

Chiloba said on Saturday that the meeting between French firm OT-Morpho and the commission was important to have suppliers of the crucial machines for October 26 election prepare early, to ensure the election is not postponed.

“The commission held a series of meetings with OT-Morpho on the level of support we required for the fresh presidential election. This culminated into an addendum to the contract that was signed on Thursday evening after negotiations were concluded as per the procurement law," Chiloba said.

NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi on Saturday alleged that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) signed a contract for the fresh controversial election with OT-Morpho which rebranded to IDEMIA on September 28.

"On 28th September, two days ago, Chiloba signed a deal with OT-Morpho at night. Kenyans paid the company Sh4 billion for six races in the first election, now they are charging Sh 2.4 billion. And then they come and lie to people at Statehouse with 'something small'," Mudavadi said.

NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga on his part reiterated that Chiloba must leave office before the fresh poll.

Raila claimed that experts had confirmed that the French firm’s services for the fresh polls should cost Sh800 million, but the contract had been deliberately inflated by Jubilee operatives within the Commission to Sh 2.4 billion.
