Mr Mongo Chimwanga has assumed office as the Rift Valley Regional commissioner taking over from immediate former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Wanyama Musiambo.
The handing over ceremony took place on Wednesday afternoon in a function that was attended by top security officials from the region.
Previously, Chimwanga was the Western Regional Coordinator and he now takes over from Mr Musiambo who was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to deputize the Head of Public Service Mr Joseph Kinyua.
Speaking during the handing over, Musiambo said that the government was doing all it could to ensure peace in the Rift Valley region.
“The government is taking seriously the security of this region following the increased bandit attacks in various counties. We have already come up with a strategy that will be short and long term in their implementation to restore calm in the disturbed areas,” said Musiambo.
He told the new Regional Coordinator to be ready for a more challenging environment in the region.
On his part, Chimwanga said he is ready for the task.
“I have in the past worked in the Rift Valley security team and with the briefing that I have received from my predecessor am equal to the task to face the unique challenges that were not in my previous area,” said Chimwanga.
He assured the fight against banditry will go on until the area is bandit free.
