The visit by the United states of America secretary of state Rex Tillerson to Kenya has sparked a fresh war of words between The US and China.
The US which is seemingly on a damage control inflicted by Chinese investors has not go down well with the Chinese ambassador in Kenya.
While in Ethiopia, Rex Tillerson made negative comments on Africa's loan appetite to Chinese loans which has been increasing grip on the content.
“It is important that African countries carefully consider the terms of those agreements and not forfeit their sovereignty,” Tillerson said as quoted by Reuters.
In a rejoinder, the Chinese ambassador to Nairobi Liu Xianfa said that the US has no authority to determine the relationship between Kenya and China and that it all rests in the people of Kenya.
“You cannot know whether the shoes fit or not until you wear them,” Liu was quoted by the Standard.
“It is Kenya and the people of Kenya who know the best and have the best position to say how China-Kenya co-operation has contributed to the development of the nation and the well-being of her people.”
The strategic importance of Nairobi to the two superpowers has in the recent past increased a brewing storm between the states. Among key factors that brought the storm are the geographical location, geopolitics, and global economics.
