The Nakuru government will partner with China’s Henan Province in agriculture and industrialisation to uplift residents' well-being.
Addressing the media on Friday at the county headquarters after meeting a delegation of Chinese investors from the province, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said Henan has a rich economic background and as such, it would be worth for the county of Nakuru to partner with it.
He said apart from industrial and agricultural co-operation, the two will partner in ICT and food processing, considering that Nakuru is an agricultural county.
"There is need for technical co-operation given the fact that Nakuru has two agricultural based institutions of higher learning and an exchange programme would be of importance to the residents of Nakuru for it would bring in new knowledge,’ said Mbugua.
He said in April, the county government will set up an exhibition stand in China during the National World Tourism Forum, an opportunity he said will be used to show case investment opportunities available in Nakuru.
Mbugua noted that the meeting was an agreement in the preliminary stages, and a formal memorandum of cooperation will be signed after the tourism forum.
On his part, deputy chairman of the Henan Provincial Committee People’s Political Consultative Conference Mr Jin Kewen who led the delegation, appreciated the diversity of Nakuru County, and at the same time said Henan Province will work with the county government for the sake of development.
The delegation later toured Bedi Investments Ltd which is among the leading fabrics company in Kenya.
Late last year, the county government signed a bilateral agreement with Ningxia Hui County of China intended to establish ties of cooperation between the two counties making them sister cities.
Mbugua said he is impressed with the number of Chinese investments taking place in Nakuru.
