Judge Linet Ndolo of the Employment and Labour Relations court in her ruling on Thursday said that the lawyer, Winnie Mghoi's contract had been terminated before her the time she agreed to work for the construction firm had elapsed.

The judge thus ordered China Civil Engineering and Construction Company, Kenya to pay the amount to the complainant who had accused the company of dismissing her from work and declining to pay her dues.

According to Mghoi, she was expected to offer legal services to the firm until the end of June but the company surprised her by issuing a dismissal letter claiming her services were no longer needed at the firm.

The company is involved in implementing various real estate and road construction projects in Mombasa County and in extension, Coast region.

"The complainant has provided enough evidence before the court to prove that her contract had not ended by the time she was dismissed from employment," Judge Ndolo told court when she made the ruling.

"Court hereby directs the defendant to pay the complainant Sh1 million to cover her salary and other benefits running to the time her contract would have ended."
