The Times Unit company, a Chinese-owned leather company, has been accused of disposing wastewater into public sewer lines without treating it first.
This is just one of the offences for which the Kiambu County health officials will be moving to court to sue the company.
Moreover, the company is accused of using asbestos materials for roofing and also lack of ventilation cyclones for the premise.
According to county public health officer Francis Mburu Macharia, the company ought to have ceased operation last after it was served a court notice to rectify the raised environmental and health risks due to its operations but until now, nothing has happened.
"Times Unit Industries received a closure notice dated December 13, asking the company’s director, Cheng Jin, to comply with health regulations in the leather industry or action would be taken against it, but they have not done anything accordingly," Mburu said.
Mburu said that he will be seeking the legal procedures to have the company shut down since it is not local and thus he is not authorized to close it.
"We will need a court order from the court so that it does not look like we are interfering with foreign investors," Mburu added.
Times Unit company which is based in Thika town had been served a notice which expired on 13, 2018 to adhere to the public health regulations in line with the Public Health Act.
