The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Nyamira County Chapter chairman Joseph Misati has said that the Chinese betting and gambling businesses in the region are legal as long as they are licenced.
The remarks come barely a week after the business community in Nyamira said the betting and gambling businesses popularly known as 'tokens' was to blame for the moral decay and rising crime among the youth.
Speaking during a phone interview with this writer, Misati said there is no ill in the business as long as the traders are licensed by the Betting Control and Licensing Board and the county's Trade department.
He said the chamber represents any legal and genuine business that's aimed at generating income.
"I don't see any issue with the so-called tokens games usually run by the Chinese as long as its licenced we as the chamber of commerce represents any legal and genuine business. It is up to the parents to ensure that their children are doing the right thing, it's their responsibility," said Misati.
He, however, said if there are any of such business running without authorisation to be closed as they are illegal.
