Chitabo-Borabu Ward MCA Albert Oino from Kisii County has challenged political elites from the region to settle on one political Party that the community should use as bargaining power in the next general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday at a fundraiser in Chitago in South Mugirango, Oino said the region has lagged behind in development due to different political stands by some of its influential leaders.
He said there was need to form a single Political Party that the community will use in forming coalitions with other like-minded Kenyans since it was impossible for the region to have a say in government given most of its legislators are from a cross the political divide.
“Time has come for us to have a say in the subsequent governments. We should form a Political Party that we can use to bargain for power and this should be done soonest,” advised MCA Oino.
Oino added, “If we do not make that decision, the region will always be ignored by governments since we do not speak as one voice.”
His statements may trigger a heated debate since most of elected members from the region belong to all leading political parties with ODM and TNA having a huge share.
Ford People, which was formerly led by former Finance and Agriculture Minister Simon Nyanchae has lost relevance and only managed three Parliamentary seats across Kisii and Nyamira Counties that have a total of 13 Constituencies combined.
