Fourteen people have died while more than 100 are admitted in Nakuru County following cholera outbreak.

On Wednesday evening Nakuru County Chief Public Health Officer Samuel Kingori took the campaign to at the Nakuru Main market after three cart loaders were admitted of disease in Nakuru General Hospital.

“We are worried as they normally carry out loads for various people and any contact might lead to more contamination. We are however talking to their leaders urging them to monitor their habits,” said King’ori.

Kingori added that new cases had emerged from Salgaa and Kambi ya Moto Kingori ruled out the issue of contaminated water, citing that the water being distributed in the county was clean for consumption.

“We want to ensure residents that the water being consumed in the county was clean for consumption and we are also monitoring the water vendors in the county to ensure their quality of water is okay,” said King’ori.

The health expert also cited that the county government had waived off all mortuary fee for the cholera patients.

“We have already cleared any bills for any person who succumbed to the disease. We are calling on the relatives to pick their bodies for burial,” added King’ori.

According to Kingori, they had managed to reach more than 5000 households on their anti cholera campaign in the last two weeks.

“We are also encouraging landlords to build better toilets for their tenants to avoid the diseases from spreading,” added King’ori.
