The Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company (KIWASCO) has been asked to repair broken water pipes in Nyalenda Estate, Kisumu.
The water pipes are believed to have burst due to high pressure a week ago yet KIWASCO has not repaired them.
The residents fear that the poor drainage in the area might result in their water mixing with sewage thus contaminating it.
“As residents we are really concerned because the sewage in this area is not controlled. With the current cholera outbreak in the country, we might fall victims,” noted Anita Omari a resident of Nyalenda.
“We have notified the KIWASCO officers who are always around disconnecting water to those who have not paid bills. Why can’t they just create time and repair this mess because in future we might not have water and they will lack something to disconnect,” lamented Margret Amutara.
Parents are also concerned because their children have turned the broken water pipes into playing objects, in turn contaminating the water. KIWASCO has previously come under fire for not repairing broken water pipes in Nyawitta Estate.
Efforts to get a comment from the company officials were futile as the public relations director’s phone went unanswered.
