Anxiety has gripped Kibera slums in Nairobi County after a suspected cholera outbreak was reported in the area.
Three people were on Tuesday and Thursday the admitted at a Nairobi hospital with cholera-related symptoms. The three who included two minors and one adult, were declared out of danger by doctors at the hospital.
The outbreak has been attributed to the water crisis in the estate that is home to hundreds slum dwellers.
The county health chief officer, Samuel Otiso confirmed the outbreak attributing it to the dirty water that is being used in the estates. He said that health workers were already on the ground issuing water treatment tablets to area residents as one way of containing the outbreak.
The Doctor at the same time said that they have directed the county health officials to ensure that they contain the situation by ensuring food joints adhere to all the regulations.
“I would like to call upon all the residents to be cautious as this will endanger life’s if the spread goes viral,’’ he said.
