Students from Gatundu Sub-County who have concluded their secondary studies have been urged to choose their careers wisely to ensure their relevance in the job market.
A Gituamba Polytechnic lecturer, Martin Muraya noted that students were habitually going for common courses which were not only overcrowded but also had limited opportunities for progression.
"Students should consult widely with their career masters that is their elders, high school teachers and also follow their passion before enrolling for courses at the university level and other tertiary institutions," he said.
Speaking at Gituamba polytechnic on Monday, November 23, Muraya observed that choosing courses without adequate consultation may make students end up living unfulfilling lives or later pursue careers they never studied in school.
Muraya who is also the deputy dean of students at Gituamba Technical Training Centre urged the youth who did not make it to university to join other training institutions like polytechnics where they could learn hands-on skills which will enable them to earn a living through self-employment.
"Gradual career progression is assured in stages and one could ascend from a trade certificate through diploma level to higher levels, only that it calls for patience and commitment," he added.
Muraya further noted that Gituamba Polytechnic offers fee subsidised education where the arrears is paid by the government.
