Residents of Chulaimbo in Kisumu County have raised an alarm over the increasing number of stray dogs seeking shelter at their homes during the ongoing rainy season.

According to the locals, the dogs usually sneak into their homes and hide as they seek shelter when it rains.

"Sometimes you find a dog under a bed or chair whenever it rains, this is something that has never happened before. We find it strange", said Agnes Okwiri while speaking to this writer on Wednesday morning.

The population of stray dogs in the area has been on the rise in the recent months, a trend that is worrying the locals.

Fears of diseases have been raised as the dogs sometimes do not only hide but also scavenge for food from the houses, contaminating household items.

"We are afraid because, chances of getting diseases conveyed by this dogs are high, our efforts to contain the dogs mostly have bot paid off," said Gerishom Munavo a resident of Chulaimbo.

The locals are calling on the owners of the dogs to take care of them or the Kisumu County animal department to intervene and save them from the impending danger.

The dogs are reported to sometimes become hostile when chased away, increasing the risk of attack.
