Police from Lanet police post were on Sunday forced to lob teargas canisters to disperse demonstrators who raided a church service at the Evangelical church accusing their bishop of grabbing church land.
They said the bishop, George Nguru, was conspiring with another bishop who was transferred from the church late last year to defraud the church.
Led by church elders they raided the church facility chanting slogans and waving placards demanding the transfer of the bishop.
"This piece of land was acquired for the church by the Evangelical sponsors church group in 1970 and we have all the documents written in the name of the church, why should a man of God do such a thing?" Moses Maina, a church elder, said.
Maina says the issue started last year in September after the former bishop demarcated part of the church compound for purposes of erecting a private property.
"This is church property and no individual is allowed to engage it in private business,"
They called on the National Land Commission to intervene before the matter goes out of hand.
