A prominent businessman in Kimende, Limuru Sub County has asked the church to spearhead the war against alcohol abuse.
Addressing the press over the weekend, Simon Wambugu said that the church has a role to play in fighting alcoholism adding that cases of young people abusing alcohol and engaging in other social evils like prostitution in Kimende are on the rise.
“The time has come for the Church to take its responsibility seriously and shape the behaviours of the youth,” he said.
Mr Wambugu observed that the future of the sub county is at risk if the problem of alcoholism is not addressed as he blamed the alcoholism to depression, peer pressure, lack of parental control and unemployment.
Wambugu called on the county government to initiate forums where the youth will be counselled and mentored noting that the county government should implement policies that will address unemployment and ensure youth are kept busy.
Wambugu also called on the parents to mentor and guide their children on proper societal morals saying that parents have neglected their responsibilities and left it to teachers who are overwhelmed.
The businessman revealed that he has organised forums where the youth from Limuru Sub County will be sensitised on matters drug abuse.
“I have organised workshops together with other professionals to equip our youth with knowledge on the effects of drug abuse,” he added.
