Speaking at the African Inland Church in Kabarak on Sunday, Moi said that the church has a big role to play in shaping societal values.

He said that social evils happening in society could only be addressed if the church speaks out and condemns them.

“I want to challenge the church to speak against evils being committed in the society and focus on shaping proper societal values,” said Moi.

Moi said that the church in the recent times has been silent on grave matters facing and affecting the society, adding that society relies heavily on the church to provide directions and guidance on issues facing the society.

The former President further asked the church to spearhead unity of the society by preaching against hatred, tribalism and incitement.

He said that Kenya is a nation that is grounded on religious teachings and that the clergy should not lose focus of its roles.

Meanwhile, Moi urged politicians to work together for the sake of development, observing that continued politicking will not help Kenyans, adding that the country is facing grave challenges that need unity of leaders.

“I want to urge politicians both from the government and the opposition wing to work together and address challenges facing the country especially insecurity,” said the former president.
