Christmas came early for street families as Holy Ghost Cathedral, Mombasa organised a special day that saw them eat and dance to their fill.
Speaking during the event that was held at the church’s hall on Monday, Father John Correa, the church priest in charge of the event, said that this was a ritual they did during Christmas and Easter.
“Every year we try and meet with them so that they can understand that somebody cares for them and that somebody is the church,” said Father Correa.
The families that attended the event were also entertained to different talent competitions such as dancing and singing organised by the church’s youth.
According to Father Correa most of the families do not have financial capabilities to provide for themselves so the church takes it upon themselves to help provide food for them.
“Also, during every week of the year we try to help them with food provided by Christians from our church whenever we have food we always invite them,” added Father Correa.
The families filled the church and were grateful as it was an afternoon that saw them eat and make merry.
“I am so happy I had fun seeing the kids dance and my children have eaten and they are happy,” said Mama David, one of the street ladies.
