Two church buildings in Nyamakoroto slum area were vandalised by crooks who stole items that are suspected to have been sold as scrap metal. According to the area sub chief Wesly Karani, residents woke up to find two church buildings, one still undergoing construction vandalised with several building materials such as iron sheets and metal structures, missing. Karani said that investigations had been launched to arrest culprits who according to residents struck in the wee hours of the night. “We have launched investigations into the incidences. We suspect that the crooks targeted the churches because they are not guarded at night. Several metal items have been vandalised and we suspect that the crooks intend to sell them as scrap,” said Karani. One of the churches leaders, Absalom Kimaru, said he received reports from one of the church followers who called him in the morning before he visited the scene. “They stole several iron sheets that were used to partition a store room from the main church hall. They also took away several window pens. All the items stolen are worth approximately Sh 50,000,’’ he said. Moses Ngujiri who lives adjacent to the church said he heard commotions that lasted for about one hour before a vehicle pulled out. “I could not make out exactly what was happening but I least expected that crooks were stealing from a church,’’ said Ngujiri.
