Members of the Legion Maria African Church Mission have accused the Government of conspiring to demolish their god's grave.
Pope Raphael Otieno told journalists yesterday that two missionaries were seeking to demolish the late Messiah Simeo Ondeto’s mausoleum to construct a new building on the site where the grave is located in Got Kwer, Migori County.
"We have received information that the deputy commissioner of Suna West has already granted the two authority to begin construction on our Baba Messiah Mausoleum," he said.
Otieno faulted the county officials of conjoining with the missionaries to interfere with the heritage of the church.
He rubbished claims that the missionaries had been sent through visions to put up a better mausoleum.
"The deputy county commissioner of Suna West has no authority whatsoever to grant permission concerning any registered property of the church," said Otieno.
"If at all the two are benefactors of the church who have been sent by Baba Messiah through visions, then why do they have a particular interest in Baba Messiah's mausoleum? We have several church buildings where they can channel their assistance."
Otieno said that the church would seek legal remedy to block the two missionaries from trespass.
