According to statistics released from Nyansiong’o Sub-District hospital, over 100 girls were admitted after suffering from what doctors termed as “attempted murder” and of which fifty young mothers succumbed to death.

But yesterday at the burial of freedom fighter Mzee Albert Ongoto, the Catholic Church led by Father Antony Mosumbe of Nyansiongo parish urged the government to take stiff measure to combat the illegal act.

“We confirm that the cases of pregnancy termination are rampant in this area. I think time has come for the government to act. God forbids such kinds of acts and even our constitution”, he said.

He asked parents to be more vigil by reporting such matters to authorities for a decisive action besides urging the suspected mothers to give birth and ask for support from the church.

“It is an obligation of parents to ensure that their daughters are safe. Those who force school children ought to be apprehended to face justice. But when pregnant don’t be ashamed because the church is ready to support you and the child.

He faulted the Ministry of Health for their plans to vaccinate young women over Tetanus and term the action as “suspicious and opaque” since its motives were not clear.

“Why do you want to vaccinate our young mothers without giving adequate explanations? Why only specific gender? Please ignore those calls till the time we’ll get an expeditious solution”, he said.

Father Mosumbe caused laughter to mourners when he stubbornly talked about family planning by criticizing those who agitate for use of contraceptives such as condoms. He said God asked human beings to sire and fill the world.
