The call by Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni Wa Muchomba for polygamy has received a backlash from the Anglican Church of Kenya.
Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has said that the church is opposed on the call for men to marry many wives noting that it is against the Christian faith.
"The church is very clear through the teachings of the Bible especially the New Testament that one man and one woman make a family," he said.
Sapit reiterated that the church would oppose any legislation meant to support polygamy or homosexuality in the country.
"We want to make it very clear that from the perspective of the church, a family is one wife and one husband joined together to form a couple," Sapit said.
The Archbishop was addressing the press at St Chrispin ACK Church in Bungoma Town on Tuesday.
Wa Muchomba recently kicked up a storm after she asked able Kikuyu men to marry many wives to cure the problem of absentee fathers and street families.
The debate continues to elicit mixed reactions.
