A local church in Thika is set to hold an initiation-training seminar for young adults in the area from November to December.
St Patrick’s catholic parish in Thika will host the session, christened ‘Rite of passage’ in a bid to educate, guide and mentor the young generation through spiritual guidance and social life counseling.
Speaking to our reporter in his office on Thursday, Father in charge of youth affairs in the parish Lawrence Kiarie said the seminar is set to build a responsible young generation with good church teachings and background.
“The church is determined to make a responsible young generation from the tender age till they get to an age where they can manage to make their own sound decisions,” stated Kiarie.
Parents in the church have welcomed the idea, which they say is noble and will see them growing a better crop of good young people.
“We really like the idea, it is great to have such training as they help young people know what is expected on them. We appreciate the efforts by the church in creating a responsible young generation,” said Joshua Kiage, a parent from the church.
The seminar will have two categories; with the boys expected to have a 2 weeks training while the girls’ will last for a week.
