Church leaders in Kisii are appealing for the closure of bars in close proximity to learning institutions to reduce drug and substance abuse among the youth.

They raised concern that bar owners are only interested in making a profit in their business thereby establishing themselves close to institutions.

They were speaking yesterday at a fundraiser in Kisii.

They now call upon the county and national government in association with NACADA to start at crack down on this bars.

They said for the government to deal with drug and substance abuse, they ought to minimise exposure.

Father Jackson Awiti said drug and substance abuse is the major drawback in the development and the only way to develop the county and the nation at large is fighting this drugs menace.

“Legal action should be taken against bars operating along learning institutions," said Awiti.

"They spread the culture of drug and substance abuse amongst our children," added Awiti.

"I will personally see to it that this is taken into action,” he said.
