46 worshipers from Legion Maria church have been admitted in various hospitals within Kisumu and Siaya Counties after they were involved in an accident near Sinaga along Luanda-Siaya road last evening.
Gem OCPD Wambua Mutiso confirmed the accident saying that the worshipers were travelling from Nairobi to Nzoia in Siaya County for their annual Christmas prayers when their bus developed a mechanical breakdown before plunging into a ditch.
The OCPD acknowledged that there were a total of 52 people on board when the accident occurred.
Mutiso said that there is possibility that the vehicle’s gear and brakes failed, prompting it to reverse down the valley before it veered off the road and plunged into a ditch.
“There were no death reported and those who sustained injuries were rushed to the nearby Sagam community Hospital, others to Siaya County referral hospital and also to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga referral hospital in Kisumu," said Mutiso.
The police boss also confirmed that 46 people injured included a man, his wife and his three children.
